Calculator Methodology

Investors Leap calculators are designed to help you explore financial scenarios, compare choices, and understand how changes in contributions, rates, time, and other assumptions can affect an outcome.

How Our Calculators Work

Each calculator uses the information you enter and applies standard financial formulas appropriate to that tool. Results are mathematical estimates based on the assumptions provided; they are not predictions of future market performance or guarantees of a particular financial outcome.

Common Assumptions

  • User-entered inputs: Results depend on the balances, rates, contributions, time periods, yields, expenses, or other values you provide.
  • Rates may remain constant: When a calculator asks for an interest rate, investment return, dividend yield, or growth rate, the calculation may assume that rate remains constant unless the tool states otherwise.
  • Timing matters: Contributions, withdrawals, compounding, and payments are modeled using the timing described on the individual calculator.
  • Rounding: Displayed results may be rounded for readability, so totals can differ slightly from calculations performed with unrounded values.

What Results May Not Include

Unless a calculator specifically includes them, projections may not account for taxes, inflation, investment fees, changing interest rates, market volatility, changes in dividend payments, changes in income, contribution limits, penalties, insurance costs, or other personal circumstances.

Investment & Retirement Projections

Investment-return assumptions are hypothetical. Markets fluctuate, dividends can change, and actual returns can be higher or lower than the rate entered. Retirement projections are planning illustrations and should not be treated as individualized retirement advice.

Debt, Mortgage & Savings Calculations

Debt and mortgage tools use the balances, rates, payments, and extra-payment assumptions entered by the user. Actual lender calculations can vary because of daily interest, fees, escrow, payment timing, or lender-specific practices. Savings and HYSA projections can also differ from actual results when rates change.

Use the Results as a Starting Point

Our calculators are educational tools intended to help you ask better questions and evaluate possible financial decisions. Before making a major financial, investment, tax, or retirement decision, consider your complete circumstances and, when appropriate, consult a qualified professional.

Investors Leap is committed to making its calculators understandable and transparent. Calculator assumptions and methodology may be updated as tools are improved.
